Ghetto Tech: Make it yourself Cannabutter
Culinary Cannabis Basic Building Block
For many newcomers, edibles are a gentler introduction to the world of cannabis. Cooking with cannabis is an excellent alternative to smoking especially for mmj patients and microdosers. Cannabis butter is the culinary basic building block for all kinds of recipes from sweet to savoury. This simple-to-make and easy-to-use cannabutter is delicious on its own or as the basis for your favourite recipes. Follow our step-by-step instructions to make your first batch.
What you'll need:
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 oz (14 g) quality dried flower (buds) or 1 oz (28 g) ground leaves*
* This is a great way to use trim if you have access to it.
How to:
STEP 1. Melt the butter slowly in a pan.
STEP 2. Grind the dried flower to a fine powder. An electric grinder comes in handy here.
STEP 3. Gently add the ground cannabis to the melted butter and stir well. The melted butter will turn a wondrous emerald green.
STEP 4. Keep the butter on low heat for up to half an hour stirring often. Do not let it burn.
STEP 5. Pour through a fine strainer pressing down with a wooden spoon to squeeze out the liquid from the mash.
STEP 6. Store cannabutter in a clean jar or container sealed tightly. Cover the hardened butter with a few drops of water and keep in the fridge. The cannabutter will keep for weeks.
For general use, 1 teaspoon per person is a good starting dose. Go slowly and increase dosage as needed. It can take 20 minutes to an hour to feel the effects of the cannabis.
