The New Canna-Normal: Mothers Mary

Annie & Jordana, Cofounders of Mothers Mary
Mothers Mary is a social enterprise. Our three pillars are motherhood, mental health and conscious cannabis. We help moms who don’t “fit in” to be their authentic selves without guilt and shame. Through group coaching and a shame-free peer-support community, we empower moms to challenge the status quo. As a social enterprise, we have committed 5% of our profits to maternal mental health.
What is the biggest obstacle you are facing right now in relation to the pandemic?
It would definitely have to be work-life balance! As entrepreneurs, we are familiar with this challenge; but now we have far less time than we would like to commit to our business. Each of us has two kids under the age of 5, at home all the time now. Patience is being tested and even though we worked from home before, our routines are changing and not always in ways we prefer.
How are you adapting your business to meet the needs of your clientele?
We are very conscious of the mental health impacts of confinement; and because of this, we decided to discount our group coaching program 90% during our last launch in April. We didn’t want finances to be a barrier to moms getting adequate support during these unprecedented times.
Self-care, self-care, self-care!! We maximize days where we have energy and motivation to work, and we give ourselves (and each other) grace and kindness on days where the intense reality catches up to us.
Are you experiencing an uptick or decline in business?
We would say an uptick, as our business is primarily online. Even before COVID-19, our Mombers turned to Mothers Mary for support in uncertain times. The free peer-support community, Mothers Mary Community on Facebook, as well as our group coaching program have been empowering, uplifting, positive spaces for moms during these times.
What is your takeaway from the new reality of operating during the pandemic?
Since we were already primarily an online business, our biggest shift has been more in mindset than actual operations. We’ve really embraced working in alignment as well as collaborations, rather than the hustle that we’ve seen glorified in recent years.
What are you doing to keep it together both on a personal level and business level during these challenging times?
Self-care, self-care, self-care!! We maximize days where we have energy and motivation to work, and we give ourselves (and each other) grace and kindness on days where the intense reality catches up to us.
